Manzanares de Rioja was a commission to refurbish an open pelota court in a small village located in the central La Rioja region of Spain.
The court is located at the heart of the village attached to the church and adjacent to the main square.
The brief required the solution to keep the court as a functional recreational court while creating a cost effective covered space for the community to be used for annual Fiestas and public holidays.
The sculptural form is created using cross laminated timber structure faced with traditional ceramic tiles to create a low cost, contemporary focal point for the village.
